Washington, D.C. – July 28, 2016 – Today investor and tech pioneer Steve Case announced the next seven cities in the fifth “Rise of the Rest” startup bus tour. The tour will travel more than 2,100 miles through the Western United States from October 3 to October 7, stopping in Omaha/Lincoln (Oct 3), Denver (Oct 4), Salt Lake City/Provo (Oct 5), Albuquerque (Oct 6), and Phoenix (Oct 7). During the tour, Case will invest a total of $500,000 in regional startups and host a series of events and fireside chats showcasing the emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Startups in these regions can submit applications online for the pitch competition from July 28 to September 7, 2016 (6:00 p.m. EDT). The winner of the pitch competition in each region will receive a $100,000 investment from Case. Previous winners from past Rise of the Rest tours have included Frameri, PartPic, SolePower, Wealthforge and more. For a full list of previous winners visit RiseofRest.com.
Since its inception in 2014, Case has invested more than $2 million in 20 startups in cities across the U.S. while travelling 4,000 miles via bus. Now in its fifth tour, Rise of the Rest unites local entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, and local government and business leaders to showcase their startup communities under a national spotlight. Previous cities have included Richmond, Buffalo, Detroit, Atlanta, Albany and many more. Cities for this next tour were chosen from hundreds of nominations across the U.S. and crowdsourced online. Eighty cities were nominated in all, with these Western regions selected for this next tour who are leading the charge in a new era of technological revitalization.
“The rest is rising and I am excited to hit the road once again on a quest to find the best entrepreneurs all across America,” said Case, co-founder of AOL and chairman and CEO of Revolution. “Rise of the Rest celebrates the promise of rising entrepreneurial communities that, taken together, will help enable the U.S. to remain the most entrepreneurial nation in the world.”
