Starting today, more than 300 participants in 10 cities have agreed to go on the first-ever national Low-Car Diet. For one month, these participants have agreed to turn over their car keys and commit to using public transportation, increase walking and biking, and using their Zipcar membership when a vehicle is necessary.
London Zipcar users will receive up to 20 percent off of their weekday reservations. A one hour drive in Zipcar will now equal a pint and a bag of crisps. This April, Zipcar Vancouver is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a little help from the Government of British Columbia as the Passenger Vehicle Rental Tax (PVRT) exemption goes into full effect beginning April 1, 2008. This new environmental auto tax exempts car sharing members from paying the $1.50 PST on vehicles rented for eight consecutive hours or less.
Completing the merger with Flexcar, Zipcar has now launched in six new states and has brought its service to Pittsburgh. The number of Zipcar members worldwide, which includes the US, Canada and London, now totals 180,000, with 5,000 cars in the Zipcar fleet. RevolutionCard, the PIN-based credit card created by Revolution Money, has announced Shipley Energy is the first energy company to offer a co-branded RevolutionCard. RevolutionCard eliminates interchange fees and charges merchants only a 0.50 percent transaction processing fee, which allows them to pass savings on to their customers. Shipley Energy customers who use their RevolutionCard will receive incentives such as a $0.10 per gallon discount at the pump; $100 credit to new home heating oil or propane customers; $100 credit for every home heating oil or propane customer; and other qualifying Shipley Energy purchases.
As Revolution Money's first processor relationship, RevolutionCard will now be accepted by Fifth Third Processing Solutions' merchant customers in the US, through Fifth Third's Jeanie network. Under the agreement, Fifth Third Processing Solutions will provide gateway processing services that will enable other merchants and ATM processors to connect to Revolution Money and offer the RevolutionCard to their merchant customers.
